World Oral Health Day

To raise awareness of the importance of oral and dental health and its impact on public health, the World Dental Federation (FDI) organizes World Oral Health Day on March 20 each year in collaboration with health institutions around the globe. This day features a variety of activities designed to promote a culture of oral health and educate the public.
PUA’s Faculty of Dentistry participated in several events to celebrate this day, underscoring its commitment to its societal role in spreading health awareness. The event was hosted by Prof. Dr. Amr Abdullah, Dean of the Faculty, and included representatives from the FDI World Dental Federation, led by Professor Nahawand Thabet, FDI Liaison for Africa & FDI Councilor. The program also featured distinguished speakers such as Prof. Dr. Mohamed Etman, PUA’s Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs; Prof. Dr. Nourhan Fanaki, PUA’s Vice President and Supervisor of the Quality Assurance Center; Prof. Dr. Mahasen Farghaly, President of Misr International University (MIU); Dr. Yousria Gawish, Professor of Periodontics at Alexandria University; and Dr. Mohamed Fahim from Haleon Company. In addition, numerous faculty members, teaching assistants, interns, and students participated in the event.
The event aimed to raise awareness about the significance of oral and dental health and to encourage healthy practices such as brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash. It also highlighted common oral health issues, including tooth decay and gum disease, and emphasized the vital role of dentists and healthcare institutions in educating both children and adults on maintaining healthy lifestyles for optimal oral health.
