Under the auspices of Prof. Maged El Ghazouly, the Dean of the faculty of Pharmacy and Drug Manufacturing, a scientific day for the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department was organized on Tuesday, 17 December 2019. The coordination of the day was managed under the supervision of Prof. Soad Toaima, the Vice Dean of Graduate Studies and Research and Prof. Reem Hagag, the Head of Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department. Faculty members and teaching assistants were also invited to participate in this day.
The day’s activities featured a lecture entitled “Probing DNA Damage Induced by Different Pharmaceuticals” that was delivered by Dr. Amira El Yabezy, an Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry in faculty of Pharmacy-Alexandria University and is a holder of Loreal UNESCO for Women in Science Fellowship in 2018. Dr. Amira El Yabezy presented her researches results in DNA field regarding the effect of some pharmacological groups on the DNA such as anti-inflammatories and anti-viral agents which cause Hepatitis. She also gave a synopsis about future research projects concerning the effect of lifestyle factors such as nutrition and smoking on DNA. It is worth mentioning that Ms. Dina Abd El Monim, Ms. Hala Ibrahim and Ms. Rana Mansour- demonstrators at the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department- talked about “DNA Analysis and Its Applications in Forensic Medicine Field”.
