A group of students from the Interior Design Program in the Department of Décor at PUA’s Faculty of Arts and Design showcased their work in a furniture design exhibition titled “The Influence of Identity in Furniture Design”, organized by the Russian House in Alexandria.
The exhibited pieces were created as part of the “Furniture Design” course, under the supervision of Dr. Aya Fathy, a lecturer in the Interior Design Program. The exhibition featured 50 students from the Faculty of Arts and Design, each presenting unique furniture pieces inspired by Pharaonic identity.
The event was inaugurated by Mr. Arseny Matyushenko, Deputy Consul General of Russia and Director of the Russian House in Alexandria, in the presence of Major General Mohamed Nour El-Din and Dr. Hoda El-Saati, Vice President of the Journalists’ Syndicate in Alexandria.
the showcased works included the following:
- A simplified Pharaonic chair inspired by King Tutankhamun’s throne, designed to provide comfort for a minister seated beside the king, adorned with Pharaonic symbols that merge heritage with modernity. Additionally, the exhibition featured:
- A chaise lounge shaped like the Eye of Horus, an ancient Egyptian symbol, decorated with Pharaonic motifs.
- A Pharaonic chair with wings, symbolizing Ma’at, the goddess of truth and justice, incorporating a sun disk and serpent, representing protection.
- A luxurious throne chair inspired by the tales of Aladdin, blending curved lines reminiscent of a magic lamp with oriental embellishments, crafted from natural beech wood and upholstered with plush purple velvet cushions.
At the conclusion of the exhibition, Mr. Matyushenko honored a group of students from the Faculty, in recognition of their creativity and excellence in furniture design.
