PUA’s Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management celebrated World Tourism Day 2024 throughout the month of September. The celebration aimed to emphasize the critical role of tourism in fostering global peace by promoting mutual understanding between diverse cultures and peoples.
The events were attended by faculty members, support staff, and students from various academic years, featuring workshops, a scientific symposium, awareness campaigns, and interactive initiatives, summarized as follows:
- “Tourism and Peace” Workshop
Dr. Fabio Carboni from the University of Northampton in England, in coordination with the Faculty’s International Relations Committee, conducted a workshop focusing on tourism’s role in promoting world peace. Dr. Carboni also discussed the challenges of overtourism and tourist behavior that may negatively affect destinations and local communities.
- Scientific Seminar and Awareness Initiatives
The faculty organized an educational seminar titled “Tourism and Peace”, exploring tourism’s contribution to conflict resolution and intercultural understanding. As part of the “Peace Encouragement” initiative, students wore traditional costumes from various cultures and carried banners with peace messages, underscoring tourism’s power in fostering harmony and cultural exchange.
- Promotional Campaign
The Faculty launched a promotional campaign by designing and distributing posters across campus and displaying them on digital screens. These efforts were complemented by posts on the Faculty’s social media platforms to maximize the campaign’s outreach.
- Publication on the World Tourism Organization Website
To extend the reach of the celebration, news of the faculty’s events was published on the official website of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). This showcased the faculty’s commitment to raising awareness about the importance of tourism in building peace and promoting the values of tolerance and mutual understanding between cultures.
