In light of the academic partnership and dual degree programs between Pharos University in Alexandria (PUA) and the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden (KTH), a high-ranking delegation from the Faculty of Engineering and the International Relations Department visited KTH in May 2022. This delegation included Prof. Dr. Mohamed Gaber Abou Ali, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Naim, Vice Dean, heads of departments, along with officials of international relations from the University and Faculty. This visit received great attention from the Swedish side, as the delegation was welcomed by Prof. Dr. Albania Nissan, director of the joint cooperation project between the two universities, and KTH’s corresponding programs officials.
Furthermore, a series of important meetings were held with many representatives from KTH to get a closer look at its capabilities and modern systems. This was followed by a meeting with Prof. Dr. Jan Gulikssen, KTH’s Vice-Chancellor, who emphasized the depth of the academic relationship between PUA and KTH that began 12 years ago. He also stressed his aspiration for the continuation and growth of the academic and research cooperation.
On the sidelines of the visit, the Egyptian delegation welcomed the invitation of His Excellency Mr. Ambassador/ Ahmed Adel Sobhi, Egypt’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Sweden. He expressed his delight with the development of the KTH-PUA relationship. He also stressed his readiness to provide full support to the students wishing to participate in student exchange and academic programs in Sweden. At the end of the visit, the delegation presented the PUA’s shield as a souvenir to the KTH’s vice president and the Egyptian Ambassador.
The visit comes within the framework of PUA’s policy that aims at strengthening its relations with international universities in order to transfer the latest sciences, knowledge and expertise in education. Accordingly, this guarantees excellence to its graduates and enables them to compete successfully in the local and international labor market. PUA’s Faculty of Engineering, however; includes 6 joint undergraduate programs with KTH in different departments. In this way, its graduates receive two degrees, one from PUA that is accredited by the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities, while the other is from KTH in Sweden.
