My name is Mariam Gamal Abd El-Nasser Alex. I am a teaching assistant in the Pharmacognosy and Natural Products Department of the Faculty of Pharmacy. I just wanted to take a moment to say how grateful I am to GOD, Pharos University, and the DAAD for supporting this project, under which I recently visited the Institute of Pharmacy of the Freie Universität Berlin (FUB) in Germany from the 1st of July till the 31st of October 2024.
This internship allowed me to get exposed to a new whole experience on both academic level and social life. I would like to share with you briefly my experience at FUB as I learned state-of-the-art pharmaceutical research techniques like cell culture and the high-resolution LC-QTOF-MS/MS. I also got introduced to new laboratories that are fully equipped with highly advanced devices and instruments. Luckily, I had the chance to work with an interesting German Research team and got to know new people and cultures.
The academic program was well organized and outstanding which could result in future joint scientific work and will help me share my experience and transfer the skills and knowledge I learned to my colleagues at PUA.
On the social life level, transportation in Germany is very organized on so many levels, has a very accurate schedule, is very clean, and is not usually crowded. I really enjoyed my time there discovering new people, culture, sightseeing, and cultural visits. I had an interesting Egyptian-German cultural exchange.

I would like to share with you my experience during this internship, which took place from the 1st of July till the end of October.

This internship provided me with the unique opportunity to not only advance my research skills but also to immerse myself in the dynamic cultural and social life of one of Europe’s most exciting cities.

While my primary focus was on enhancing my academic and practical expertise, the cultural experience was equally inspiring. FUB went beyond academic support by organizing tours of historic landmarks and introducing me to local events and summer activities. These experiences gave me a deeper understanding of diverse cultures and active social life. The city’s efficient public transport system and its welcoming, international atmosphere made it easy to explore and interact with people, helping me adjust quickly to my new environment.

This balance of professional development and cultural immersion made my time in Berlin truly unforgettable, fostering both personal and academic growth. The internship not only enhanced my research competencies but also expanded my worldview, making it a rewarding and memorable chapter in my academic journey. I am grateful that I have been a Pharmacy graduate from Pharos University & now my university is giving me the chance to represent my faculty and be a part of this valuable collaboration.
