My name is Alina Georgiana Sas.
I am a responsible, creative, intelligent, lonely girl.
I went to PUA for student exchange because I wanted to see the differences between the courses and the laboratories compared to the faculty where I study in Romania.
Mail: sasalina255@yahoo.com
I stayed in PUA for 4 months and 17 days.
The difference between PUA and the University of Oradea is that in PUA there are many more students in courses and laboratories. At the University of Oradea few professors use projectors, more is used the writing in notebooks by the students.
At the University of Oradea, we have only one evaluation per semester, only the final exam for each subject at the end of the semester.
PUA staff , both the teachers and the laboratory assistants were communicative and helpful.
A normal day as a student in the PUA is like this: in the morning at eight and a half, the first course or laboratory begins where the teacher does not give a break at all until ten and a half. Then if you are lucky you have two hours break and go to eat something and if it does not mean you have the next course and go without a break. In the break, you can go to the teacher’s office to ask if you didn’t understand something in the lesson, and he will help you dearly. After completing the courses one day you can stop at a store with friends from PUA or you go home and prepare for the next day.
The most beautiful experience in PUA was the free Tuesday hours in which activities were carried out with students who wanted to participate, for example, talent shows organized on different days for each faculty. The biggest challenge: I try to express myself with people who do not know English but only Arabic.
Alexandria is a very old city with many old buildings, but with a very beautiful view of the sea. You have to have money with you all the time especially if you are a foreigner because everything is paid at the triple price compared to if you are Arab.
People are very curious and friendly, but stressful. The dirt on the street is a big problem.
I was surprised, that all people want to take pictures with you if they notice that you are from another country.
I advise other colleagues visiting PUA to be very well informed of the country in which they go and with the place where they will live. To be interested in the food of the respective country and to be able to cook in the place where they live. Be prepared for the weather as it is different in another country.
I learned to deal with myself, without parents and I realized how much it means that you have people around you that you can communicate in your native language.
In the beginning, I just wanted to go and see another culture, another type of person, other opinions, and another style of life. When doctor Monica presented me with all the courses and the opportunities in PUA I decided to go there. Our exchange period was 4 months and 20 days in Alexandria.
The biggest difference is in the labs. In Oradea our labs are more theoretical, but in PUA the practical part was really practical. In Oradea we don’t have a website for the lectures so we have to write it or to buy the book.
Everyone at PUA was cooperating and tried to help us, but it wasn’t that easy to communicate because not everyone knows English.
A usual day started in the morning when we get up to go to courses, every day we had a lecture and a lab and in some days an hour or two free between these courses. In those free hours we went to the food court to eat something or to Green Plata. And then we go back to our hostel to eat to study for the next day and maybe to go see around Alexandria a little bit
I think the best part of the university was the labs, I love doing things with my own hands. The best part, in general, was meeting such different and beautiful people. The biggest challenge was the language, it’s really hard to study just in English since all my life I studied in Romanian and also not so many people in shops transportation or street speak English and it was hard to ask for help
I think Egypt and Alexandria are so beautiful, there are so many old and impressive places and I love that and also people are soooo friendly, they were setting us on the street, everyone wants to talk to You to know You, just to be your friend, but so few know English.
The traffic was a surprise, that You can cross the street trough wherever You want. The food is so delicious. The weather, it was colder than I thought.
I advise colleagues coming to PUA in the future to be very patient, to be very friendly, and just to enjoy the experience.
On the personal level, I am stronger, I’ve learned to be more tolerant, I’ve learned to appreciate all the things I have back home
My name is Ahmed Magdy Elzanaty, I am 22 years old. Four years ago I got graduated from the British Council in Kuwait as an IGCSE student. Then I applied at Pharos University in Alexandria, Egypt (Faculty of Financial Administrative and Financial Sciences) Department of Finance and Investment.
Moreover, during my second and third year, I became the elected Class Representative of my level college also I did tonnes of social activities such as collecting donations for those who have financial issues, organizing events, and trying to help students in developing areas in Egypt by giving them stationary needs for schools. Last September/2020 I got graduated with a CGPA of 3.88 being the top third-class honor.
I chose PUA for several reasons. Firstly, it offers a dual degree which is extremely beneficial for students. Secondly, the university is located in the convenient middle of Alexandria. Finally, it offers reasonable academic fees.
I thought it would be a stunning opportunity to make new friends from different mindsets and cultures, to improve my English, and to learn how to depend on yourself without your family’s help. Despite all the benefits that I have mentioned, the experience is just worth it.
It was for 5 months. Starting on the 9th of September 2019 and ends on the 2nd of February 2020.
Firstly, there was an announcement in the College Board saying that there is a fully-funded scholarship for one semester at Technological University Dublin and for those who would like to apply they need to have a minimum CGPA 3.00, to prepare a motivational letter with a signed recommendation letter from any professor and after then you have to submit these papers to the international coordinator at my college (Dr. Wael Mostafa). Also, to do an English placement test, if you will pass the English test you will be selected to do an interview with an administration committee such as Dr. Mennatallah and Dr. Noorhan Fanaki and after this interview, you will be informed if you will travel or not.
There is no core difference between the two universities on the academic side; however, I would say that in Egypt as a whole we do not have a student college life; we even do not know the meaning of college life. Starting from the campus, student activities and so many things related to how to enjoy your college years.
They were very helpful, easy-going and they are available 24h/7. To be very concise they are there for you. Also, I would like to thanks Dr. Alex Gibson for his continuous support and help, it won’t be that easy without him.
I wake up at 6 o’clock. I get up at 6.50. I make my breakfast and iron my clothes. I have a shower and get dressed. I pack my bag with all my materials. I then put on my coat and leave the house. I walk to the bus stop. I catch the bus at 8.15, and then I pay my fare and sit down. It takes about 45 minutes to get to the college three miles away. I get off the bus and walk to the college. The class starts at 9.30 and ends at 4:30 and it varies every day.
There is no specific part that was the best but I would say that the whole experience was awesome and I wish I could do it again.
There were no challenges everything was easy and smooth.
My impression about Ireland that it took part in my heart and I wish I could repeat the experience.
What I love is that it’s a city full of green! Ok, we are in Ireland, it is normal, and if you go just 20 min away from the city you will be covered by all the green, but I’m talking about the city Centre. If you look at the map you could see several parks: Dublin boasts a lot of gardens and parks and, among others, the Phoenix Park.
Before traveling you need to put a plan( what you want to accomplish from this experience), read about the country, and the one million dollar advice you need to buy an umbrella and a waterproof jumper because it rains the whole day and every day. Apart from that, you will be good to go, everything is easy there and you will love the country with no doubt.
I have learned to depend on myself, to plan for my budget, and to take risks in my life even if it will be a wrong decision.
I chose PUA because there is a great potential that you are to receive a dual degree, get the opportunity to travel to visit International universities that has a dual degree with PUA. Also, that PUA got a huge variety of faculties. Also, let us not forget that it is a private university that makes education 10 times better than that of the public ones.
The idea of traveling to a foreign country with different values and cultures was tempting that you get the opportunity to explore a different ideology which helps in developing your character, making you learn a lot epically when you are alone on this trip with none of your family members. Also, you gain a lot of new friends. And the experience itself teaches you a lot by the way.
The exchange period was about 6 months which is quite good but I wished it was about 1 year.
I applied for the scholarship among different candidates and was able to qualify because I worked on myself as I am always looking to learn more. I am the kind of person that is always looking to learn more languages as I was learning the Turkish language and taking some courses. I took some programming courses as I was looking to be a game developer and Taking online marketing courses for my future business. And I would like to recommend that you should always be confident when you enter the interview. That is the most important point because it is the main factor to success in most of your work as it makes you more confident in what you are doing.
Same subjects that we take here in PUA but the difference is that they got more business fields and subjects to study and specialize in and this can also be found in different fields besides business school. The library there in TUD is well prepared full of capabilities for students to study where the environment is encouraging, no need for sections just labs that differ from one subject to another. The professors are enough for helping the student and are ready to answer any inquiries. Even if a student got bored from staying in the library at TUD he has loads of different quiet places outside the library inside the TUD itself for studying. A quiet room for anyone that is always open. You can visit any lab and work on a pc with no limits and no one asking you to close the place. You can just stay in TUD as long as you want. PUA is an amazing university but it needs some changes but there is still a lot to learn in it that helped me through my educational trip in my life.
Yes, they were really helpful and available all time. We were able to reach them anytime when needed. And they were friendly. One of the things that I could remember that the students’ office or the administration office were helping all the time. When we needed some papers to provide to the immigration office they didn’t hesitate and it took no time to prepare the information needed. Another example is when we didn’t know a lot of places in the country Dr. Alex was giving us grand recommendations that were superb like cultural events, historical places to visit, places where we could find some jobs, and helping us to organize our timetable and our subjects, helping with conflicts. And the Egyptian professors there helped by giving grand advice about the way of studying and life advice.
A regular day in my life was waking up early at 7:30 am getting prepared for the University. having my breakfast with the host family and talking with them before going. Sharing our plans for the day with each other. then taking the bus to TUD in the City center. Meeting my friends inside the cafeteria to attend our lectures together. having our lunch break either inside the cafeteria or going to restaurants near to TUD. then going back to finishing the rest of the lectures. We used to go to the library to finish our studies together or finish some assignments, projects, etc.. afterward, we sometimes went for a walk in the City center or went shopping or to discover new places in Dublin. Then at the end of the day, I spend the rest of it with the host family chatting with them and sharing what happened during the day with each other, watching the tv then preparing for the following day.
The opportunity itself to get to study at one of the best universities in Ireland was really helpful and very informative. taught me a lot as we learn every day in our life. The well-prepared library has lots of features. The wise, influential, and life-changing professors there. The ease of access to information from anywhere. The ability to have a laptop loan.
Well, I can’t think of a big challenge maybe except the idea that you are always challenging yourself and always trying to prove yourself when you are competing with the other students from that country and working on giving the image that your country got brilliant students.
Well, Dublin is a great city with lots of places to explore and things to do with great diversity and different cultures there. The problem is with housing as it is expensive to get a room in Dublin and it is better if you shared with someone the rent or got a room with a host family as they will be really handy to you.
There is lots of stuff that impressed me about life in Dublin or Ireland as a whole. The traffic is well organized, The air is cleaner. People are friendly and helpful just like here in Egypt. The life there is exciting, full of peace and calm. Stores close earlier at 6 O’clock or 6:30 pm which makes it a bit annoying but you get used to it. The rains are always a problem making you always wet. As it is always rainy here in Egypt. The best thing about rains is that you do not get muddy because the streets are well made. The ease of access to different locations with just the cheap Dublin bus and the leap card that is used for different types of transportation. Nature everywhere is stunning as it is really where modern architecture can be found mixing and indulging with nature. Cheap food supplies that you would not stay hungry and diverse cuisines to try.
Yes, I would like to recommend that they should try to apply and don’t think about anything else. There is nothing to lose and you would not regret it. Just apply and do your best and improve yourself. And be prepared but remember that if you were not lucky enough that it doesn’t mean the end of the world. There are loads of opportunities waiting for you.
I got to make a bunch of new foreign friends. And a foreign family that I can consider as my friends and a second family. I got to visit 2 countries and not only 1. I was taught new skills from joining in the societies and the clubs in the university that I didn’t try before in my life like riding the canoe, doing some hiking, I also was taught 2 new foreign languages during my trip I would say that it is worth it to try.
I was interested in the duo certificate, plus it has a good reputation for teaching.
I love the idea of trying new things, traveling, meeting new people, and trying new cultures. It was a good opportunity to do all the previous and getting out of my comfort zone.
5 months.
We have examined an English test, wrote our C.V. and a motivational letter, had two recommendation letters, and finally an interview.
TU Dublin has a bigger building and so many more programs which I like to have so many varieties. However, the teaching system is almost the same.
Yes, they were very helpful from day one till the last day.
Waking up early, taking the bus, attending a lecture, having breakfast, attending lectures or sections, hanging out if there is time, having dinner, going home, and sleep. On a light day, I would study what I had in the previous week.
Traveling and seeing the beautiful nature of Ireland and trying new food.
Trying to keep my spending limited to my budget as Ireland has high expenses.
Dublin is a very nice place and has lots of cultures. The weather might be cold and dull sometimes but I managed to enjoy this too. I love how Ireland cares for its nature and appreciate human rights.
I liked how organized they are yet, not strictly organized. I was surprised by how green is the country and there are parks all over the cities.
I would tell them to take warm clothes as the weather is cold. Also, I would suggest that they learn how to cook and try different food there are many good varieties.
I would say that I started appreciating nature more. Also, I loved how people worked so hard during the week and enjoyed their weekends even harder.
I chose PUA for study because I wanted a special faculty to study Business at and I was very attracted to the idea of a dual degree with TU Dublin University, it was a motive for me as well to choose PUA.

I went to the TU Dublin student exchange program because I knew it was an experience that I couldn’t miss, I knew it would benefit me on both the professional side and the personal side and it indeed did, it was and it will always be an unforgettable experience for me.
The exchange was for six months and I went through a tough process to be chosen, at first, I applied when the college announced that they are doing an exchange program, then I submitted some papers which were the motivation letter and 3 recommendation letters from my professors at college, then I had an English test and after passing all of this I had an interview with the International Relations Coordinator Dr. Mennatallah Gowyed and Dr. Mohamed Mohy El-Din and within a few days later I received an email that I was accepted to take the scholarship.
The difference between the studying approach at PUA and TU Dublin is not much, almost the same except that they depend more on Research but even that we have it here in PUA so I didn’t find much difference, but on the other hand, when I went there I didn’t feel different from the students at the educational level, I used to answer with the Drs at the lectures and I have had an A in most of the subjects I have taken there and that’s because I had a great background and knowledge because of my great professors at PUA.
All the staff members, professors, researcher, and others that I have met have been VERY helpful, they didn’t make us feel different, they supported us and not only on the educational level but on a personal level as well, they helped us with the difficulties that we have had at first which helped in making our stay in Ireland way easier.
A regular day for me as a student at TU Dublin was to go from my house at Tallaght with the bus to the college, attend a lecture which was for two hours, then have a lunch break then go to the library to finish any assignments that I have before going to another lecture and leave the college after I’m done with my lectures and assignments.
My impression of Dublin and Ireland, Uhh, it was my first time for me to travel to Europe so I loved it, Dublin is a cozy city, I loved the cold weather because I’m a winter person so I enjoyed the weather, I loved the small and short buildings, the vibes it gave me were amazing, I enjoyed the small details of Ireland like the hot coffee on a rainy day or the long ride from home to college, I loved all the details about Ireland especially that its very very different from Egypt.
Yes, lots of things in Dublin and Ireland have surprised me like how organized everyone is, how everyone respects time and the privacy is amazing there, it was impressive for me because we lack such things here in Egypt.
My advice for the students that are going for exchange that they have to do their best at studying because they are presenting PUA and they should give a good impression about the college there in Dublin
Of course, the experience has changed me personally, I have become more responsible than before, I became more organized in my time, I have been in situations that I had to handle on my own, I have been through times that I felt lonely and I didn’t have my family around me but I had to handle everything on my own, my sickness, my stress, my happiness, and everything so the experience helped me to become a more responsible person and it changed me in a good way.
