PUA’s Faculty of Dentistry recently conducted an awareness workshop for its faculty and teaching assistants, focusing on integrating sustainability principles into academic curricula and research. Organized by the PUA’s Curriculum Development Committee and Quality Unit in collaboration with the “Green Pharos” team – comprising Dr. Maha Ibrahim, Dr. Yasmine El-Hamouly, and Dr. Israa Beshr – the event brought together 13 faculty members from various academic departments.

The workshop provided in-depth discussions on practical methods for incorporating sustainable development goals into dental education and research, with particular emphasis on eco-friendly dental clinics and sustainable dentistry applications. Participants examined environmentally responsible practices within the field, including proper medical waste management and the use of advanced technologies to enhance sustainable treatment approaches.

Dr. Maha Ibrahim emphasized that “this initiative aligns with PUA’s broader strategy to promote sustainability awareness among faculty and students while establishing responsible environmental practices across all academic disciplines.” The program featured interactive activities designed to demonstrate practical applications of sustainability in dentistry and explore how scientific research can support sustainable development objectives.

Concluding the event, organizers assessed participant engagement and knowledge gain through an electronic survey evaluating the workshop’s impact on curriculum development and research methodologies. Attendees expressed strong satisfaction with the workshop’s content and objectives.

This event marks another step in PUA’s “Green University” initiative, which seeks to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices across all faculties in line with global sustainability trends and social responsibility commitments. The University plans to continue this series of workshops and activities to further embed sustainability principles throughout its academic programs.
