Petrochemical Program Vision

The Petrochemical Engineering program at the Faculty of Engineering, Pharos University,  seeks to achieve a distinguished academic level for graduates of petrochemical engineering department through advanced academic and applied education. The program qualifies students to work with the latest technologies in the fields of petrochemicals, conduct applied research, and provide community services to achieve sustainable developments. The program also seeks to get graduates capable of providing innovative solutions and entrepreneurship.

Department  Goals

  1. Provide the students with the basic knowledge intended for the job of designing practical applications in the field of Petrochemical Engineering and industrial chemistry.
  2. Contribute to raise professional competences and form a new generation of specialized engineers and researchers qualified to compete in the labor market locally and internationally in the field of petrochemicals and their applications.
  3. develop knowledge and skills in the program to adapt the rapid changes in the various petrochemical industries, introduce them to their environmental impacts, and provide them with the necessary skills and means to evaluate it according to scientific basics.
  4. Enhance communication between the program administration, the college, industrial partners, and research centers concerned with the program’s specialization to achieve harmony between the level of the graduate and the changes in labor market requirements.
  5. Participate in achieving the sustainable development plan and putting science at its service to develop society scientifically and culturally and provide means of environmental services for companies in oil, natural gas, polymers, and the petrochemical industry.
  6. strengthen the practice of scientific and student activities, student support services, and entrepreneurship, in a way that supports their national loyalty, and raise their capabilities in the labor market.

Distinctive features of the  program

The Petrochemical Engineering program is distinguished by the distinctive features that support its competitive position. The distinctive features are as follows:

  • The program is a professional entity specialized scientifically in teaching distinguished and specialized courses in the field of petrochemical engineering, which distinguishes the program graduate by studying these courses from his counterpart in similar programs such as:

Polymer Science (1), Polymer Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics , Automatic Process Control, Corrosion Engineering , Petrochemical Risk Management, Heat transfer in chemical process and Gas treatment and Liquefaction,Envirmental Engineering, plastic industry, industrial waste water treatment and so on.

  • The teaching methods in the program depend on interactive learning, research, efficient teamwork, and continuous follow-up with the use of modern scientific textbooks and not relying only on the scientific material presented by the course professor in order to graduate a generation capable of self-learning and innovation.
  • Many companies and institutions provide opportunities for field visits and training students in modern technological fields and the participation of some community parties in teaching specialized courses to link and align the scientific content of the program courses with the needs of the labor market and transfer expertise, such as the Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Company (ETHYDCO), Alexandria Fertilizers Company, Sidpec Company (for the production of polyethylene and its derivatives), the Egyptian Petrochemicals Company, Nile Sugar Company, SUMED Company, the Petroleum Research Institute in Cairo, ASPEC Company, and the Textile Research and Technology Institute in Dokki through protocols and some field visits provided by these companies.
  • The Royal Swedish Institute signed an agreement with Pharos University (PUA/KTH) to accredit the Bachelor’s degree awarded by the Petrochemical Engineering program at Pharos Engineering according to Swedish education quality standards. The agreement resulted in the exchange of faculty members and students to study some courses during a semester at the Royal Swedish Institute.
  • The program is characterized by its use of the electronic platform (Blackboard) to manage courses and the hybrid education system, and the use of the Internet software system (Power Campus Self-Service) to manage information in the study program systems.
  • The college and all its facilities are located in the heart of Pharos University campus and close to all university services, which saves effort and time for all parties involved in the educational process. These services include: Computer Center, Language and Translation Center, Commercial International Bank (CIB), University Press, Medical Clinic, Study Hall, Cafeteria with a group of restaurants (Food Court), Sports fields (football, basketball, volleyball, handball, tennis), Seminar Hall, Theater Hall, which helps students, faculty members and employees of the college to benefit from the services of these central units.
