Believing in the importance of community awareness and the promotion of a culture of respect and care for the elderly, PUA’s Faculty of Applied Health Sciences Technology hosted an awareness seminar titled “Enhancing the Role of Society Towards the Elderly.” The seminar was delivered by Dr. Marwa Ahmed Saad, Professor of Geriatrics at the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University.

During the session, Dr. Marwa shed light on the health and social challenges faced by the elderly, emphasizing the crucial role of society in offering support and care—not only from a medical standpoint but also from a humanitarian and ethical perspective. In her address, she referenced Quranic verses and Bible passages, all underscoring the importance of honoring parents and caring for the elderly, reflecting the shared religious values that promote solidarity and compassion.

The seminar also showcased successful international models of elderly care, highlighting the possibility of adapting such approaches locally in ways that align with the cultural context of Egyptian society. Furthermore, it stressed the importance of involving the elderly in community activities, recognizing them as valuable sources of wisdom and experience.

The event witnessed notable engagement from attendees, with students and faculty members participating in constructive discussions on how educational institutions and civil society can play a more active role in this vital area.
