As part of its Architectural Engineering Department’s academic program held in Rome from April 3-9, 2025 in collaboration with Sapienza University’s Department of Architecture and Design, Pharos University of Alexandria (PUA) organized a series of field visits to major historical sites in the Italian capital. The program provided students with hands-on learning opportunities by exploring Rome’s architectural marvels, including the Colosseum as an ancient engineering masterpiece, the Roman Forum that once served as the political and social heart of the empire, and the Pantheon’s unique Roman architectural design. Students also experienced the baroque beauty of Piazza Navona, the Vittorio Emanuele Monument, and the Arch of Constantine – offering unparalleled access to study world architectural treasures firsthand.

To enhance cultural understanding, the itinerary included visits to Vatican City with St. Peter’s Basilica, along with Rome’s iconic Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps, where students examined the artistic and historical significance of these landmarks. The program featured a special excursion to Florence, an open-air museum of architecture and arts, allowing students to study the city’s unique architectural heritage. The university also incorporated commercial design exposure through visits to Rome’s largest shopping center, introducing students to contemporary interior design trends.

These field visits reflect Pharos University’s comprehensive educational approach that bridges theoretical knowledge with practical applications. Students expressed great enthusiasm for this unique opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world architectural wonders. The program strengthens academic collaboration between Pharos and Sapienza Universities while demonstrating Pharos’ commitment to providing exceptional educational experiences that expand students’ professional horizons
