The Architectural Engineering Department pays close attention to community service and fostering awareness among students regarding the preservation of Egypt’s cultural and architectural heritage. Accordingly, the Department conducted a practical application through the eighth-semester architectural design course. This involved engaging students in a collaborative project focused on documenting and enhancing the historic Qaitbay Citadel area in Alexandria, recognized as one of the city’s most significant and oldest sites due to its rich historical and archaeological value.

Through this project, students undertook the documentation of the site’s social and cultural heritage, aiming to preserve the architectural fabric of Alexandria. The design proposals encouraged the incorporation of modern elements that resonate with the time period of the citadel’s construction, all while maintaining a respectful acknowledgment of the region’s history. This initiative not only enriches the educational experience of the students but also contributes to the sustainable development and cultural preservation of one of Egypt’s most treasured landmarks.
