Prof. Dr. Zainab Demerdash, Dean of PUA’s Faculty of Arts and Design, and Prof. Dr. Najwan Shahata, Head of the Decor Department and Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, inaugurated an exhibition showcasing the products of the Decor Department students for the courses “Architectural Structures” and “Working Drawings.” The exhibition highlighted exceptional work from the Architectural Structures course, where students presented detailed engineering boards featuring structural elements such as building layers with precise leveling marks, interior finishes like cement tiles and drop ceilings, and designs for staircases and elevators.
The projects reflected a deep understanding of practical applications and an appreciation of heritage, featuring iconic buildings like the Umm Kulthum Building, Hayat Villa by Hassan Fathy, and Baron Palace.
Similarly, the Working Drawings course focused on designing and executing wooden furniture, integrating materials like metal and glass. Students showcased dining room furniture, including chairs, tables, and cabinets, using measurements from their own homes to enhance practical interaction and creativity. This exhibition demonstrated the students’ ability to combine technical expertise with artistic innovation, bridging the gap between design and functionality while celebrating both originality and modernity. This exhibition not only showcased the students’ technical skills but also highlighted their ability to blend creativity with practicality, contributing to a deeper understanding of the interplay between design and functionality.
