A Field Visit to The Smart Village
As part of bridging theoretical education with practical application, PUA’s Architectural Engineering Department organized a field visit to the “Smart Village” in Giza for second-year students (fourth-semester). The visit was part of the requirements for the EAG212-Basic Design (2) course, under the supervision of course instructors Prof. Dr. Reham Nady Faragallah and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamed El-Fakharany, along with T.A. Reham Sherif and Eng. Maryam Khaled.
The visit began with a tour of the headquarters of Dar Al-Handsa, one of the ten largest engineering firms in the Middle East and a LEED-certified company since 2015. The students were welcomed by the company’s director, who delivered a lecture on sustainability methods, LEED certification, and their application to the company’s building design.
The visit continued with a tour of the Smart Village, where students explored various forms of public buildings, the relationships between architectural blocks, and their functional requirements, all while considering sustainability principles. This hands-on experience aimed to help students apply these concepts to their assigned project.
