A Field Visit to Mazhar Botanical Garden

As part of the EA553 – Landscaping course, PUA’s Architectural Engineering Department organized a field visit to Mazhar Botanical Garden in Giza for senior students (9th Semester). The visit, supervised by the course instructor Prof. Dr. Reham Ragheb, was accompanied by teaching assistants namely, Eng. Mohamed Shaaban, Eng. Reham Sherif, Eng. Israa Abdel Monsef, and Eng. Salma Nagi.

The students were warmly welcomed by Ms. Theresa Labib, a historical gardens consultant, who delivered a detailed lecture on the various types of plants found in the garden. Following the lecture, a guided tour was conducted by Dr. Jacqueline, who elaborated on the garden’s layout, plant species, and greenhouses with diverse climates designed to accommodate plants from tropical and cold regions.

The tour featured visits to the orchid greenhouse, the indoor plants greenhouse, and the ferns and bromeliads greenhouse, where students gained hands-on knowledge about plant diversity and the fundamentals of garden design. This experience allowed students to deepen their understanding of plant ecology, climate adaptability, and the practical aspects of designing sustainable green spaces.
